All roads lead to Leitrim and inparticular to Drumshanbo where the Joe Mooney Summer School got under way yesterday the 16th of July and will carry on until the 23rd.  Tomorrow will see the beginning of the music, singing and dancing classes.  People travel from all over the world to attend the school and we have had some of them staying with us at The Old Rectory over the years.  It is a fantastic opportunity to either take part in or to simply enjoy.  So if you get a chance come and support traditional music at its best. www.joemooneysummerschool.com

Fenagh Abbey at night

A magical day out -  Forty primary school children from Fenagh National School, Aoife being one of them, set off at 7.15 on a very frosty Irish morning for the RDS in Dublin.  They had been practising since last September and were going early to rehearse the songs with the other 3,000! children attending.  The parents set out on a bus at 11am and arrived at the RDS to the sound of 3,000 children having one hell of a good time, doing the wave and simultaneously throwing their red Santa hats in the air. And then it began… 

and what a show it was.  They had a number of guest appearances, the High Kings being one of them along with other dancers and  singers.  It was a phenomenal two hours and something they will remember for a long time to come.

Bringing The Craic Back

The Culchie Festival is about to arrive in Leitrim.  In a little less than two weeks time Mohill will host the 21st Culchie Festival.   It promises to be a weekend packed full of fun events such as The Super Gran competition, Matchmaking of Culchies and festival escorts, The Culchie a la Creme competition, the King of the Culchies competition, and much more.  Sunday will see the Great Honda 50 run and the 6th Annual Horse Fair.

Two world records are set to take place over the weekend.  Fergal Darcy will attempt to put on in excess of 215 pairs of Underpants in just one hour and set a new Guinness World Record for his efforts. www.culchiefestival.com
