We are often told how lucky we are to live in such a beautiful home with stunning views from every window; it’s not something we take for granted, we know how lucky we are, and we love our home. Having been in the Curran family now for 3 generations, The Old Rectory has transformed over the years from a basic hay shed into what you see today – a family home that we love to share with our visitors.
The house was built back in 1827 in the Georgian era and remained a Rectory into the 1960’s before Pats Great Uncle Monsignor Peter Moran bought it in 1964 and used it as a hay shed and to raise chickens!
Renovations on the house began in the early eighties and it housed angling clubs on holidays in the area before we took over the house in 1994 with big plans to restore it to what we knew it could be and our journey began from there. Our vision was always to restore each room of the main house while keeping the Georgian features that give the house its character – restoring a country house like this is an act of love but one the house has returned to us in spades.
In 2012 we added additional accommodation in the form of our Courtyard Apartments, it was important to us to be able to expand the property but in a way that reflected the charm and style of the existing house, which we achieved giving us the room to have 30 guests at any one time. This allowed us to have group activities such as our Murder Mystery and Yoga Retreats.
We always saw the potential of the house to host unique and intimate weddings and in 2014 started exploring this idea in our minds and researching how we could offer The Old Rectory as a Wedding Venue to couples near and far. This idea took a leap into life when we erected our Lakeview Pavilion on the lawn which would allow us to not only host weddings but also to expand as an Event Venue to host larger group activities such as corporate team building, quilting retreats etc
While restoring and developing the House and surroundings we always wanted to do it in a way that offered something back, to make it sustainable and self sufficient in as many ways as possible. We are always focused on being environmentally conscious and encourage our guests to do the same. In 2020 we saw the addition of Electrical Solar Panels to add to the hot water solar panels on the house and apartments and the rain water harvesting system as we continue to make the environment an important part of our business.
Everything we do here is looking at how can we preserve what it is here already and in doing so how can we make sure this beautiful place we live in survives for generations to come. So that far into the future someone will look at the work we have done to the buildings, trees and gardens we planted and get as much joy as we do from those who have come before us and provided us with such a fantastic place to live. This house has been our family home for almost 30 years now and the house has grown in the same way our children have and will continue to far into the future.
Thank you for being part of our story so far

I am writing to thank you ,Patrick and Aoife for your kindness to us over the weekend. We all enjoyed our stay in The Rectory and Fiona’s apartment was spacious and ideal for a small family gathering on Sunday evening. We appreciated our lovely breakfasts and a beautiful lunch on Sunday. I was very relieved Paula’s wedding went ahead in these difficult times. Very best wishes to you and your family. I hope the pain in your hip and knee improves
Just wanted to say how much we both enjoyed our stay at the Coach House. You have a beautiful setting; we are both thoroughly relaxed; recharged after our stay. Thanks for the extra session in the hot tub; it was perfect timing as the sun was out at the same time. We are missing Pip; Candy already; they seemed to have set up camp outside the door; we were getting used to seeing Pips snout appearing round the door! Thanks to Aoife too.
Just to say THANK YOU to Julie and Pat for Charlie's Christening yesterday. It was all great, the room set up and the food was fantastic. Definitely recommend you for hosting a function!
Everything about this stay was perfect! We are a young couple that were looking for a few days away from the city and The Old Rectory was perfect! The cottage was so charming and sweet, there were cupcakes and all the necessities for making a cup of tea when we arrived. Patrick lit us a lovely fire and showed us the grounds. There are 2 canoes you can avail of and head out on the beautiful lake Which was so much fun and also a hot tub you can use you just need to book in. We booked it very last minute and there was never a problem. Julie and Patrick’s family were so lovely and made us feel so welcome. It was very private but when you bumped into someone on the grounds there was always a smile. Special mention to the adorable animals on the grounds that I wanted to take home with me. I can’t wait to go back. Jenny Airbnb
We really enjoyed the quilting weekend in your beautiful home, you all work very hard to make it memorable. You and your family always make us feel so welcome and at home. We enjoyed meeting Roisin, she is an excellent teacher as indeed is Erin. Nice to meet up again with all the returned participants and also meeting new ones. Looking forward to next year already!
Just back after our weekend with you at The Old Rectory. On behalf of our group from Killala quilters I would like to thank you for a wonderful weekend. The food, accommodation, and tuition were wonderful within the beautiful environs of The Old Rectory. It was particularly enjoyable and appreciated because of being in the time of the Pandemic. We felt very safe and the hospitality afforded to us was second to none.
Quilting, creativity, and craic in The Old Rectory Country House, Leitrim. Wonderful hospitality and food in a beautiful environment, a lovely weekend. Thank you and your team for keeping us all safe, very well fed and happy.
"We've just had the most fantastic weekend in The Old Rectory with Julie and Patrick. Our bedroom was beautiful, spotless and had stunning views of the lake. The food was delicious and we laughed so much at the murder mystery, it was hilarious and really well organised. Canoes and life jackets were available without charge and the lake is stunning to explore. There is an outdoor hot tub also which we didn't avail of but others did. There is a lovely country pub a few minutes walk away. Overall.. this place is a gem! Whether it's a special occasion or just a weekend escape. It would be the most beautiful intimate wedding location for anyone looking for something different and special. We will certainly be back" Linda & Liam
“With a full harvest moon as I got out of my car and walked up the steps to the 1827 Georgian mansion each of us had previously received a description of the role we would play and an outline describing our fellow cast members. We had been encouraged to come in costume and it was stunning to see, we were truly transported to the 1920’s. Once the ‘murder’ was committed we all became a community of detectives searching out and seeking other people whom we thought might lead us to whoever had committed this dastardly crime!!! None of us knew ‘who-dun-it’ until the very end and not before we had been wined and dined and led around the crime scene in a fury of accusations and denials by all.” Yvonne Parson
Organised a murder mystery night here for a work team building event (approx. 20 people). It exceeded all expectations! The setting of the murder mystery was within the old manor house with props to lend to the story line. It really helped with the immersion in the story and the group really got into the characters and story line. The murder mystery was lead by a Mrs Bates who was well able to lead a big group like us while keeping spirits and humour high! People in the group who had done murder mysteries before said that this one was by far the best they had ever gone to. The dinner included in the event was superb, everyone was delighted with the food. Absolutely delicious. After the team building we walked up to the village where there was a local pub where we were able to socialise in afterwards. The accommodation was finished to such a high standard. Great furnishings and super clean. The group was very impressed with the finishes in the converted stables. Breakfast the next morning was highly rated by everyone. Julie was such an easy host to organise with, any ask or alterations to plans we had she accommodated with no hassle. Very welcoming. Overall, had a superb experience and would highly recommend for large groups looking for a group event but also a nice get away for a couple/family as the accommodation and surroundings were fabulous and hosts were just brilliant. Hope to get back again!
